Birthday Dinner for 15 People in NYC: Rooms for 12 to 20
Seven restaurants publish a group route for a birthday dinner for 15 people in NYC: Via Carota’s Spazio Creativo cellar (15 to 55 guests), Lilia (12 to 20), Don Angie’s Don’s Next Door (up to 18), Il Gattopardo’s Alcove (up to 16), Trattoria Dell’Arte (groups of 15 or more), Rubirosa (8 to 22) and Aurora (prix fixe up to 25). The ceilings decide the choice: a 17th guest ends the Alcove, and a 19th ends Don’s Next Door. Capacities, hours and policies below come from each restaurant’s own website, checked in October 2026.
Seven restaurants for 12 to 25 guests, at a glance
Each of the seven is here because its own site publishes a room or group format that covers part of the 12 to 25 band. They are ordered by the ceiling of the smallest published room or group format that fits 15, as of October 2026.

What is considered a large group at an NYC restaurant?
There is no single number, but eight recurs: Rubirosa’s group dining starts at 8, Via Carota’s Wine Room tops out at 8, and the party-size picker on the reservation forms at Lilia, Il Gattopardo, Trattoria Dell’Arte and Rubirosa ends at “8+ People”. Rooms and group formats start higher: 12 at Lilia and Via Carota’s Farm Table, 15 at Spazio Creativo and Trattoria Dell’Arte’s main room. Lilia’s page lists à la carte dining for up to 6 and its room from 12, so a party of 9 or 10 there is a question to ask, not a booking to assume. Where to book a birthday dinner by party size places this band beside smaller and larger parties.
Which restaurant fits 12, 15, 18, 20 or 25 guests?
Read each range as a ceiling first. For 15 guests, the headroom before a range ends is 1 guest at Il Gattopardo’s Alcove and Trattoria Dell’Arte’s Wine Room, 3 at Don’s Next Door, 5 at Lilia, 7 at Rubirosa and 10 at Aurora.
- 12 to 14 guests: every restaurant here has a space or format that holds the party. Via Carota’s Farm Table exists only in this band; Lilia (12) and Rubirosa (8) publish a floor, while the others publish only a ceiling.
- 15 to 16: Via Carota’s route becomes Spazio Creativo, whose floor is 15, and Trattoria Dell’Arte’s main-room group dining opens at 15. A list hovering around 14 or 15 must pick a Via Carota room before the invitations go out. The 16th guest is the last for the Alcove and the Wine Room.
- 17 to 18: the Alcove and the Wine Room are out. Don’s Next Door still fits, at its ceiling of 18, as do Lilia, Rubirosa, Aurora and Spazio Creativo.
- 19 to 20: Don Angie’s published route past 18 is a full restaurant buyout, up to 50 guests. Lilia’s semi-private room ends at 20; Rubirosa, Aurora and Spazio Creativo continue.
- 21 to 25: Lilia publishes nothing between its 20-guest room and a buyout maximum of about 85. Rubirosa ends at 22, Aurora’s prix fixe at 25 and Spazio Creativo at 55.
- Past 25: Trattoria Dell’Arte’s Candle Room (30 seated), Il Gattopardo’s Cellar (30 seated, upon availability), Aurora’s seated events (80) and Via Carota’s Spazio Creativo (15 to 55 across formats, with no separate seated count).
Where to have a big birthday dinner in NYC
Best for a shared seasonal menu: Lilia
Lilia, at 567 Union Avenue on the corner of North 10th Street in Brooklyn, has a semi-private dining room for groups of 12 to 20 with a seasonal menu served to share. The menu highlights woodfire cooking and includes antipasti, handmade pasta, a secondi and dessert. The hours page lists 5PM to 10PM Monday through Thursday and 4PM to 10PM Friday through Sunday.
Best for family-style pasta and pizza: Rubirosa
Rubirosa, at 235 Mulberry Street, welcomes groups of 8 to 22 for a family-style lunch or dinner and is open seven days a week, 11AM to 11PM. The group page lets a host add a cake with candles, or an antipasto platter for guests arriving from a longer event; no price is listed for either. For platter sizing and set-menu prices at Rubirosa and six other group-dining restaurants, see family-style birthday dinners in NYC.
Best for a private room just under 20: Don Angie
Don’s Next Door is a dedicated private dining room beside Don Angie, at 103 Greenwich Avenue, with its own entrance, cocktail area and kitchen, for seated dinners of up to 18 guests. Full restaurant buyouts run up to 50 guests. The hours page lists the restaurant opening at 5pm Monday to Thursday and 4pm Friday to Sunday, plus Friday-to-Sunday lunch from 11:30am to 2pm, with last seating at 10:30pm nightly; it does not say whether the private room follows those hours.
Best for Midtown rooms of 16: Il Gattopardo and Trattoria Dell’Arte
Il Gattopardo, at 13-15 West 54th Street, describes the Alcove as a semi-private space on the main dining room floor that seats up to 16. Dinner is served 5 to 11 PM daily, until 10PM on Sundays. Trattoria Dell’Arte, at 900 7th Avenue, lists a Wine Room for 16 seated and, for large groups in the general restaurant, a minimum of 15 guests. Its hours page lists F, N, R, Q and W trains to 57th Street.
Best for 25 with a set menu: Aurora
Aurora, at 70 Grand Street in Williamsburg, offers prix-fixe dining for groups of up to 25 guests. Its enclosed patio seats up to 50 and can be reserved without a full restaurant buyout. Daytime private events run from 11am to 4pm and evening events from 6pm to 12am; the page lists no window between 4pm and 6pm and no per-person price.
Best for a West Village dinner that may grow: Via Carota
Via Carota, at 51 Grove Street, splits the range across two rooms. The Farm Table is private dining for 12 to 14 guests just off the main dining room, with its own entrance on Grove Street. Spazio Creativo, the cellar, is for 15 to 55 guests and can host formats from standing drinks and passed antipasti to seated coursed meals, buffet and food stations; its PDF gives no separate seated count. Inquiries go to gatherings@viacarota.com. The regular dining room is a different route: its Questions page says it takes no reservations, that its largest table seats 12 and that a party of eight or fewer is easiest to seat. For a birthday of 12 or more, the events inquiry is the safer route than the walk-in line. The restaurant is open 11am to 11pm Monday through Friday and from 10am on weekends.
What do the event pages leave out, and what should you ask?
None of the seven event pages lists a room fee, a minimum spend, a per-person price, a deposit or a final-headcount deadline, and none says how far ahead to book a group; how far in advance to book a birthday dinner in NYC covers the windows restaurants do publish. Il Gattopardo’s hours page says “Reservations are highly recommended” with no lead time, and Lilia’s home page says reservations come through Resy or reservations@lilianewyork.com.
Trattoria Dell’Arte’s form asks for the type of event, with Birthday as an option, and the number of people; Il Gattopardo’s asks which space (Atrium, Cellar, Alcove or Full Buyout) and the event date. Put four questions in writing: whether the published number is seated, what the room fee or minimum is, when the final headcount is due, and whether outside cake is allowed. Private dining for groups of 15 or more covers when a phone reservation stops working and what to put in a first email to an events manager.
Frequently asked questions
Where to have a big birthday dinner in NYC?
For a birthday of 12 to 25, seven restaurants publish a group route: Via Carota (Farm Table for 12 to 14, Spazio Creativo for 15 to 55), Lilia (12 to 20), Rubirosa (8 to 22), Don Angie (up to 18), Il Gattopardo (Alcove up to 16), Trattoria Dell’Arte (main-room groups of 15 or more) and Aurora (prix fixe up to 25). Choose by the ceiling, because each range ends at a different number.
Which NYC restaurants have a semi-private room for 12 to 20?
Lilia’s semi-private dining room is for groups of 12 to 20, and Il Gattopardo’s semi-private Alcove seats up to 16. Don Angie’s Don’s Next Door is a private dining room for up to 18, and Via Carota’s Farm Table is private dining for 12 to 14.
How far in advance should I book a restaurant for 15 people?
None of the seven restaurants publishes a lead time for groups, so the working answer is to send the inquiry as soon as the date and a headcount range are set. Aurora’s events page lists daytime and evening windows, so the time of day belongs in the first message.
Can 20 people have a birthday dinner at a NYC restaurant?
Yes. Lilia’s room is for 12 to 20, Rubirosa’s group dining is for 8 to 22, and Aurora’s prix fixe is for up to 25. Via Carota’s Spazio Creativo (15 to 55) and Trattoria Dell’Arte’s Candle Room (up to 30 seated) also fit, while Don Angie’s Don’s Next Door stops at 18.
